WBC Ministries

Kingdom Kids!

Kingdom Kids is our children’s ministry for k-5th graders.  Our children’s ministry helps families as they guide their children in all areas of development, so that they will know Christ and have a personal relationship with Him.  Our children’s ministry strives to:

  • Grow families in the knowledge of Christ that they may more confidently meet the spiritual needs of their children,
  • Love children in a safe environment that provides age-appropriate Bible study and models Christ’s love,
  • Opens hearts and minds to the needs of others,
  • Recruits, trains and supports teachers, mentors and volunteers who impact children in their walk with Christ,
  • Involves children in worship through prayer, music, stewardship and study of the Scriptures,
  • Furnishes fun activities that reinforce family bonds and friendships while being spiritually enriching and honoring God, and
  • Yearns for God's direction as we minister to the spiritual, mental, social, physical and emotional needs of His children.

In all we say and do, may we glorify and honor God. Presently, we offer these weekly activities:

  • Worship Kidstyle on Sunday mornings at 10am
  • Sunday School classes on Sunday mornings at 11am
  • Children In Action  on Sunday evenings at 5pm
  • Children’s Choir on Sunday evenings at 6:30pm

Upcoming special events include 5th Sunday Family Worship and Christmas Bible School on Dec. 10th.

Youth Ministry

Reaching out to young people and meeting their needs is a priority of our church. Our goal is to model and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ so that they may come to know our Lord and serve others as Christ has taught us.

Weekly programs in the youth ministry include:

  • Sunday School at 11am on Sunday mornings
  • Discipleship Training at 6:30pm on Sunday evenings in September-December
  • World Changers mission training at 6:30pm on Sunday evenings in January-April
  • Youth Sunday preparation at 6:30pm in May / Sunday Nights at 6:30pm in June-August

The youth also gather for recreational activities, mission projects, retreats, and social events. Through these, the youth grow closer to each other as they grow closer to God. Activities are planned for 6th-8th graders in middle school and 9th-12th graders in high school.

Upcoming events include Haiti Mission Trip on Nov. 17-26, The Story Tour on Dec., 11, Winter Ski Retreat on Jan. 13-15, World Changers Puerto Rico on June 16-23 and MC2 on July 23-28.

Fauquier Food Coalition

Our church partners with the Fauquier Food Coalition to distribute food and groceries to hungry families and individuals who live in our community.  We work together with Fauquier County government agencies, civic organizations, businesses, and other churches to distribute food on the 3rd  Saturday of each month from 9:30 – 11:30 AM (or until we run out of food) at the Warrenton United Methodist Church’s fellowship hall.   Food items are distributed at no charge to those who qualify or demonstrate need.  We collect food on the Sunday –Thursday before the monthly distribution at our church.  Help us fill the basket!

If you would like to volunteer to help sort, box or pass out the food, please email info@fauquierfood.org,  go to the website at http://www.fauquierfood.org/index.html or call at (540) 905-7227.

Our next distribution is Saturday, November 19, 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Our church’s collection is Sun., Nov. 13 – Thurs., Nov. 17

Haiti Missions

In addition to giving, we also believe in going.  WBC has been sending mission teams to Haiti since 1995.  The teams work to support the ministries of the Jerusalem Baptist Church of Fort Liberte, Haiti. Some of the projects include support of the medical clinic, church farm, orphanage and school.  This year's team will be in Haiti Nov. 17-26, 2011.  They will continue with the medical mission and focus on construction of the new orphanage.  The Haiti mission effort is supported through the church budget and individual gifts.  If you are interested in child sponsorship contact Donna Wilkers at dcwilkers@msn.com.  For more information regarding our mission work in Haiti or if you would like to go with the team, please contact Trish Putnam at trish.putnam@bms.com.

Prayer Ministry

Prayer is the greatest power on earth.  The greatest life ever lived was also the most prayerful life ever lived.  Jesus sometimes went alone to pray; other times He prayed publicly.  If Jesus felt the need for prayer, how much more do we need prayer?

Our Prayer Ministry serves in two ways:

  • Weekly Prayer Chain- Through the Prayer Chain, you can receive a phone call or email weekly giving you a list of prayer requests.  During that week, you pray specifically for those requests.  Our weekly prayer chain is phoned on Tuesdays.  You may request morning, afternoon, or early evening.

  • Emergency Prayer Chain- We put the Emergency Prayer Chain into action when there is an emergency in the church and/or community that needs our instant attention and prayer.

There are prayer guidelines available. Please contact Bree Matthews if you would like to join the Prayer Ministry.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Monthly sharing meetings are on the 2nd  Saturday, attendance is not required.  Instructions provided as needed. We will even teach those who do not know how to knit or crochet.  Materials provided as needed. At present, these people are involved:  Betty Rhodes, Mara Anderson, Kim Raines, Pam Estes, Marie Estes, Joyce Cockrell.

Recent Activities:

  • Christmas 2010 - Completed more than 100 items for the Bridges Program which is part of the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board.
  • May 22, 2011 - Distributed blankets and throws to high school seniors.
  • Throughout the year, we distributed shawls to church members who were sick, suffering, grieving.

Our needs include additional knitters or crocheters, gifts of yarn, and help in distributing shawls in a timely manner.
